We often talk about our Yuluites who support us in our goal of making India a smart and sustainability-driven country. Now it’s time we look at those who have helped Yulu become a one-stop mobility solution. They are our colleagues at Yulu. From a start-up to one of India’s leading e-mobility companies, Yulu has come a long way with contributions from our colleagues spread across different verticals.
We got in touch with one of our colleagues, Anuj, who handles the EV Development and Global Strategic Sourcing of Yulu. It was interesting to learn more about his role, his journey at Yulu, the challenges he and his team faced, and how they’ve overcome them.
Life Before Yulu Happened
Anuj takes care of EVs and their aspects like cost, quality, reliability, time. His job revolves around checking in on EVs at Yulu, both existing and new developments. He graduated from IIT Kanpur in 2007 and then moved to France for his Masters. After spending about 10 years working in a German automotive company, he decided to return to India. What piqued our interest was the reason behind this move.
With a diverse background and a stable job, Anuj was satisfied with his performance, however, he wanted something more. “I was doing well in my previous job, but I wanted to venture into EV, to contribute more to society,” says Anuj. E-mobility has won hearts over the last decade due to its impact on the environment. It is for people like Anuj who made the right switch at the right time, and that has made all the difference.
Why Yulu?
Just like us, you’d be wondering that why did Anuj choose Yulu, a start-up, to build his career in the e-mobility domain. He was looking for EV start-ups as they have the potential to grow and with his experience, he aimed to bring about a sea change in the e-mobility domain in India. Yulu, being one of the 1st in the industry to do a low-speed, electric 2 wheeler for last-mile connectivity, caught his eye and the rest is history. He knew this is where he needs to be.
“Be it the battery, charging system, battery swapping, IoT, Yulu had its whole work ecosystem laid out,” says Anuj.
A Miracle He Recalls
Anuj joined Yulu just before the nation was struck by the deadly coronavirus. What seemed like a red signal for most ventures was surprisingly not one for us at Yulu due to the commitment of our colleagues and the support shown by all our Yuluites. A Miracle that he shared with us is how we could expand our fleet amidst the pandemic and despite the speed-breakers that came our way. “When I joined, we had about 4000 vehicles. Right now, we have more than double, and we aim to have 50,000 vehicles,” says Anuj.
Unstoppable Despite Roadblocks
A day in the life of Anuj has some challenges that he shared with us. Scouting for vehicles suitable for shared mobility, then overlooking aspects like batteries, charging systems, IoT, handled by our technical team, all come under the purview of supply chain management. “Getting in touch with vendors, OEMs, and getting the supply chain right is one of the most challenging parts of my job,” he adds. Handling batteries, managing vendors, expanding scale in the process has been a daunting task, but Anuj and his #Unstoppable team did not let these roadblocks get in the way.
What Keeps Him Charged At Work
It’s the excitement to work on something unique that keeps him motivated to do more. “Not all employees at Yulu would know what lies next in store for us, but we anticipate and work towards the ultimate goal and future of EVs,” says Anuj.
Our futuristic vision keeps us going, and together, we are on our path to making more Miracles happen!
