We began our journey with an aim to tackle the critical level of air pollution and traffic congestion in India. But we knew, being just another shared mobility model wouldn’t be enough. So, we embarked on a journey to establish an entire ecosystem of the shared e-mobility industry in India, all from scratch!
After analyzing the challenges faced by commuters and other shared mobility platforms, we developed our unique model for eco-friendly, shared and sustainable commute. The same approach is being taken by others globally as well.
Here’s how we paved the way for the future of smart commuting through our unique inventions:
Yulu Innovation 1 – Solved for Battery Charging Infrastructure
We solved one of the biggest challenges faced by the Electric Vehicle ecosystem in India by creating a unique battery-swapping network. This network was built by placing our proprietary IoT enabled charging box (Yulu Max) at hundreds of mom-n-pop stores across operational areas.
Additionally, we created an app dedicated to our on-ground team, which notifies them about their nearest Yulu Max, along with the real-time location of vehicles that have a battery-charge below a defined threshold.
Yulu Innovation 2 – Solved for Parking Infrastructure
Inadequate parking infrastructure is the biggest problem faced by large metropolitan cities, so we set out to tackle this challenge by yet another innovation. We realised that to create a convenient public mobility platform; the infrastructure has to come from existing spaces, be it private or public. Cities in China, US, Europe, Singapore etc. have provided areas from available space (footpaths, mass-transit hubs, etc.) to build their public mobility systems. And therefore, we worked and collaborated with cities, corporates and citizens. They provided us with access to prime real estate so we could create convenient and accessible Yulu Zones across cities.
We continued to replicate this model of collaboration in every city we’re present in!
Yulu Innovation 3 – Solved for the safety of assets
Our operational model and Yulu Miracle’s unique design solved the asset safety challenges faced by shared mobility platforms. Since Yulu Miracle was explicitly designed for shared mobility, it has no “standard” parts which could be used in other bikes in the market. This means the parts have no economic value.
Further, our drop off at designated Yulu zones model and on-ground bike Yulu Pilots ensure that the bikes aren’t being abused or stolen. Smart move? We let our numbers do the talking!
Yulu Miracle has a theft rate of less than 1%, which is significantly lower than global ride-sharing platforms like Pedl by Zoomcar, MoBike and Ofo Cycle.
Yulu Innovation 4 – Solved for high durability
Yulu Miracle has been built keeping in mind the convenience of userson Indian roads, ease of maintenance for the on-ground Ops team, and durability to be used in a shared mobility model. The minimal use of plastic parts and regular proactive maintenance activities have ensured that the Miracles are in the right working conditions at all times!
We believe that to expand, we need to keep dynamically evolving, learning and re-inventing ourselves. While some of our competing platforms resulted in shutting down operations during these challenging times, we continue to thrive due to our unstoppable philosophy and innovations.
And now, after three years, with more than 18,000 eco-friendly vehicles, 2 Mn users, we’re currently running India’s largest EV led micro-mobility platform. Our mission to create sustainable cities of tomorrow is even stronger!
