We often talk about Yulu’s mission of redefining urban mobility in India and making the urban commute seamless, shareable and sustainable. With 10000+ electric bikes, Yuluites have saved 7,000 metric tonnes of carbon emission by traveling a total distance of 75 million kilometers that will enhance the AQI. Today, Yulu is one of the major players in India’s mobility space and is a trailblazer for the future of sustainable, electric mobility.
However, one aspect of Yulu’s mission that has not been foregrounded is our deep passion about creating positive social impact. Our mindset, from the very beginning, has been to help make people’s lives even the tiniest bit easier and we are dedicated to making a difference.
Today, we want to highlight this mindset through a story of a fellow Yuluite who has been positively impacted by Yulu and wants to share her message to the world.
2020 has been a harrowing year for the world where everything came to a standstill and as the world dealt with a global pandemic together. As the dust settles however, we can see that the pandemic has caused much more damage than we previously anticipated in terms of irreparable loss of countless lives and the devastating loss of livelihoods.
Priyanka Singh moved to Bangalore from Kolkata at the peak of the pandemic. She had moved with her entire family, in search for a better means to live and dreams of better opportunities in the big city. Reality hit soon after when she realized that finding a job in the city was a difficult task. The pandemic had taken a toll on the economy and opportunities were numbered, especially for women.
When Priyanka decided to apply for a job with a delivery platform, she was told that she would need an active driver’s license and an automobile.
She had neither. Nor did she have the means to acquire these resources.
In search of other means to deliver, Priyanka chanced upon the Yulu electric vehicles and from then on, she has been well on her way to achieving her goals.
The fixed weekly rates combined with zero maintenance or fuel expenditure, makes this mode of transport ideal for her. She is able to conduct her deliveries seamlessly and make a living, without securing a driver’s license.
According to her, the Yulu is an extremely comfortable way to travel and the sufficient storage capacity makes intra-city deliveries easier.
At Yulu, we are grateful and humbled that our products have enabled this woman to earn a living for her family and contribute to their livelihood. We’re glad to have any little impact on society and help out our community in any little way.
The ₹5000 – ₹6000 she earns weekly, has given Priyanka a means to contribute, which has in turn contributed to giving her a purpose.
“I no longer need to ask anybody for money, instead now I am able to support my family,” says Priyanka, thanking Yulu for helping her in her journey.
